Southern Maryland Waterfront
Plenty of Shoreline
Southern Maryland has some of the best shorelines and water uses in the state of Maryland. According to Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources, Southern Maryland (the counties of Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s) have a total of 1,046 miles of shoreline. Charles County has 305 miles, Calvert County 230 miles, and St. Mary’s County, with 536 miles has more than Calvert County and Charles County combined.
What’s Your Need?
With varying depths, salinity, topography, etc… Southern Maryland can satisfy any waterway desire. We’ve got water for just about any need or application. Require depth for a keeled sailboat? Quiet backwaters for kayaking? Open water for power boats, water-skiing, or tubing? Prefer freshwater, saltwater, or brackish? Good places to fish and crab? Or just a relaxing place to watch the sunrise or set? We got you covered.
Prices are Favorable
Home prices have fallen and I think in some market’s, especially the waterfront market, there’s room for further improvement. Why room for more improvement? I don’t think we’ve the end of the foreclosures and short sales. As we see more distressed sales, traditional sales will need to compete and about the only way to compete is price. Price drive any market, especially this one.
Bert’s 50′s Diner – Good food and an Excellent Value
Comfortable Atmosphere
I took my kids to Bert’s 50′s Diner in Mechanicsville, MD for lunch today since they are off school for Spring Break. While this was not our first visit, it struck me I should write about the consistently good food and service. The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in the front door is the black and white tiled floor, the “oldies” music playing in the background, and the positive energy. It’s a comfortable place to have lunch, dinner, or an after meal treat.
Classically Varied Menu
The menu is pleasantly varied and sure to satisfy just about any palette. According to their website:
“Plan a roadtrip of flavors…
Take your tastebuds on that Great American Road trip with our Menu full of classics from across the Country. If you want to start your trip looking good, go for the Hotrods and Hub Cap Nachos for an appetizer. Slow down and enjoy one of our Blue Plate Specials. But whatever else you may see along the way, one pit stop for dessert will leave you wishing you never had to leave the open road!”
I’ve had several different things and haven’t been disappointed; Open faced turkey sandwich, Rock fish sandwich, cheeseburgers, and of course their ice cream sundaes. They have soft served and hand dipped. Yum!
Consistently Good Food and Service
According to Bert’s history, it has been a part of the Southern Maryland Community since 1985 with several expansions since. One thing that keeps us coming back is the consistently good food, great service, and excellent value. We know we are going to enjoy ourselves without breaking the bank. Seems like any restaurant that’s been around this long must be doing something right.
